tithing

It seems no matter what church you go too preaches and teaches on tithing that it is a New Testament practice for Christians. I have studied the New Testament myself on this and there is no scriptures saying that Christians should tithe ten percent of their pay check (before taxes are taken out) to the church and yet many pastors preach this.

Most scriptures on tithing are in the Old Testament and it isn't about money but tithing farm crops and farm animals to the tribe of Levi.

The Christians who tithe don't even give their tithe to the tribe of Levi but the church and the Old Testament clearly says the tithe belongs to the tribe of Levi.

The New Testament mentions giving to the poor and giving a certain amount to the church for God's work but it never calls this a tithe.

Jesus mentioned once tithing in the gospels but he was talking that practicing love was more important then tithing and in the book of Hebrews it mentions that the Israelites tithed to Levi but never mentioned that the church needs to tithe.

So how on earth do these preachers twist Old Testament scriptures to being part of the New Testament? And when did tithes turn from farm crops and farm animals to money? And giving to the tribe of Levi to the church? I just don't see anything in the New testament saying that a Christian has to tithe but yet these preachers will try to make you believe the New Testament says this when it doesn't. And then they love to use Malachi 3:8 to make one feel guilty if they don't tithe.

8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.

“But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’

I even had other Christians tell me they would let a bill go so they could tithe or not feed their kids so they can give to the church. I feel this is wrong not to feed your kids so you can tithe.
